(10-5-10) Petroleum Inventory Data (wk 5/7/10) The Energy Department reported that crude oil inventories rose 1.9 million barrels during the week ended May 7, after rising 2.8 million the prior week. Analysts had expected crude oil inventories to increase 1.0 to 1.5 million barrels during the latest week. The Energy Department reported that gasoline inventories fell 2.8 million barrels during the week ended May 7, after falling 1.2 million barrels the prior week. Analysts had expected gasoline inventories to increase 200,000 to 500,000 barrels during the latest week. The Energy Department reported that distillate inventories --which include heating oil & jet fuel -- rose 1.4 million barrels during the week ended May 7, after increasing 573,000 barrels the prior week. Analysts had expected distillate inventories to increase 1.0 to 1.5 million barrels during the latest week. The Energy Department reported that refinery capacity utilization decreased to 88.4 percent during the week ended May 7, from 89.6 percent the prior week. Natural Gas Inventory Data (wk 5/7/10) The Energy Department reported that natural gas inventories increased 94 billion cubic feet during the week ended April 30, afer increasing 83 billion bcf the prior week. Analysts had expected natural gas inventories to rise 100 to 120 bcf during the latest week. The Energy Department reported that natural gas inventories now stand up 4.9 percent or 97 bcf from the year-ago levels and 18.4 percent or 325 bcf above the five year average.
